Mark Porter speaks to Radio Stoke
Supporters’ Club Chair Mark Porter was interviewed by Lucas Yeomans on BBC Radio Stoke to provide a half way season review.
You can listen here:
Supporters’ Club Chair Mark Porter
Statement from the Chair
The Supporters’ Club has contacted the club to raise concerns shared by many supporters regarding performances and results this season, which are widely recognised as falling below expectations.
We have been contacted by a number of fans who are frustrated and concerned about the current situation and the direction of the club. We fully understand these frustrations, particularly as events on the pitch have not matched what was anticipated at the start of the season.
Of growing concern is the impact on supporter engagement with some lifelong season ticket holders choosing not to attend matches and indicating they may not renew if improvements are not seen.
This is a worrying position for the club to be in. The Supporters’ Club remains hopeful that 2026 will bring an upturn in fortunes and will continue to represent supporters’ views in a constructive and respectful manner, with the long-term interests of the club at heart.

John Rudge Statue Unveiling
The John Rudge Statue was unveiled at Vale Park on Monday 21st October 2024, John’s 80th birthday.
Around 1500 supporters surrounded the statue, near to the Fan Zone at the Hamil Road side of the ground, as John and the Statue Fund Committee pulled back the covers to reveal sculptor Michael Talbot’s magnificent tribute to Vale’s legendary former manager.
John’s family were joined by many guests from the wider footballing community to witness the unveiling. This included numerous former Port Vale players along with representatives from the PFA, LMA and FA and former colleagues and friends of John from his many years in football. The event was also covered by a wide variety of reporters from the local and national media.
Port Vale Chief Executive Matt Hancock commented “Rudgie is synonymous with Port Vale, with Stoke-on-Trent as a city and with the football world as a whole.
“Anywhere you go, he gets spoken about. He’s such a humble, kind and normal man. If anyone deserves a statue, it’s John.”
John Rudge added “I would like to thank the Fund Raising Committee and all the supporters who have donated to raise the £100,000 for my statue. I am truly grateful and honoured to have the statue here for me outside the club that I love. It’s been an absolutely fantastic day for me.”
